China booked three more rowing berths to Athens as the 2004 Olympic Continental Qualification Regatta for Asia was concluded here on Saturday.

As expected, China comfortably secured three more Olympic berths in the men's lightweight double, women's lightweight double and men's single, adding its total berths up to five. The first two came from women's single and women's pair.

China will again participate in June's Continental Qualification Regatta for Europe in Switzerland, competing in the women's eight, double and quadruple, as well as men's quadruple and lightweight four.

The remaining five tickets in the men's single were bought by Chinese Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, South Korea, India and Uzbekistan.

Five berths in the women's single were allocated to Chinese Taipei, South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand and Uzbekistan.

In the men's lightweight double, Chinese Hong Kong and Uzbekistan, ranked second and third, qualified for the Olympic Games while women's lightweight double rowers from Japan and Vietnam, second and third placed, became Athen's pets.

Olympic berths in this qualifiers were distributed as follows: China (3), Uzbekistan (3), Chinese Hong Kong (2), Chinese Taipei ( 2), South Korea (2), Thailand (1), Japan (1), Vietnam (1), India ( 1) and Indonesia (1).

Rowing events in the 28th Olympic Games will run from August 14 to 22 in Athens, Greece, featuring 550 athletes, including 358 men and 192 women, and 202 boats.

In the 2003 World Rowing Championships in Italy, 130 boats and 404 athletes have qualified for the 2004 Olympics.

Excluding 17 in Qualification Regattas for Asia, the remaining 55 boats would row to Athens through Olympic Continental Qualification Regattas for America and Europe.
