More than 100 students suffer from tainted food Forty-seven primary school students were poisoned by food in Zhecheng County in Central China's Henan Province while the number of college students ill in another food poisoning case in Northeast China's Jilin province rose to at least 116. Doctors with the Zhecheng County People's Hospital confirmed Wednesday that 47 children from the county's No. 2 Primary School were hospitalized on Monday with symptoms of food poisoning. By Wednesday, all the students were in stable condition and a preliminary survey showed that unclean food and bacteria are to blame for the food poisoning in Zhecheng County. Yet another food poisoning case Wednesday morning in Changchun University in the capital of Jilin province fell at least 144 students. The students were taken to two local hospitals in Changchuan after eating breakfast. University authorities said only 116 students fell sick by 11:00 am Wednesday. The university students reported symptoms of nausea, vomiting and fever. Some fainted. Though a probe still under way, doctors with No. 1 Hospital affiliated to Jilin University and Qianwei Hospital attributed the poisoning to nitrite in a breakfast of fried rice mixed with scrambled egg. The canteen, which reported the poisoning case, has been sealed by local police and the city's health supervision department. A team has been sent to look into the case. All the sick students are out of danger thanks to an intensive emergency treatment, doctors said. |
