A leading official with this China's top judicial body said local judicial departments have been ordered to review their decisions on the reduction of jail terms, release on parole and release on bail for medical treatment case by case from May to September.

Any irregularities uncovered during the review should be rectified, and those law enforcement officers found to have committed law-breaking offenses will be punished according to law.

From October to December this year, local judicial departments are urged to improve the existing mechanism concerning the reduction of jail terms and release on parole.

The official said the moves are aimed at cleaning up and rectify illegal activities concerning the reduction of jail terms and release on parole in recent years in a bid to ensure legal justice while protecting the legitimate rights of convicted law-breakers.
