China and Spain became the largest winners on the second day of competitions at the 12th Paralympic Games in Athens on September 19, grabbing five gold medals respectively to take top two places in the medal standings.

Chinese obtained gold medals in judo, swimming, wheelchair fencing and athletics while the Spanish owed their gold harvest primarily to the swimming pool.

Britain won the third place with five golds, two silvers and five bronzes, while Germany and Hong Kong ranked fourth and fifth.

The first world record of the Athens Games athletic competition fell tonight to French Assia El Hannouni, who set a new record time of 24.99 seconds in T12 women's 200 meters race.

Another world record was broken on Sunday in the men's T42 shot put final. Russian Fanie Lombaard broke his own world record with a heave of 13.81 meters and successfully defended the title he won four years ago.

Kenyan runner set a world record in 10,000m T11 category.

Meanwhile, world records tumbled on the first day of Paralympics swimming competitions.

A total of 13 world records were broken out of 19 events at the first session among which 11 was made during the finals, creating an amazing start for the nine-day long competition.

After a "Day of Hong Kong" featuring three gold medals in individual events of fencing on Saturday, the women's epee team of Hong Kong won the team open title by beating their Hungarian opponents on Sunday evening.

China became the Paralympic Games men's foil team winners, after beating Hong Kong 45-41 in the final.

On the second day of judo competitions, the four golds were shared by German, Russia, China and France, while in the cycling races, Australians claimed two gold medals and Spanish Roberto Alcaide won first gold medal for his country's Paralympic delegation.

Sweden and Britain won two gold medals in the second day in Shooting.

Preliminary competitions were also held Sunday in sports of wheelchair basketball, sailing, table tennis, wheelchair tennis and 7-a-side football.
