Myskina, Kuznetsov to play in Fed Cup

Anastasia Myskina and Svetlana Kuznetsova will lead Russia's Fed Cup team when it plays Austria in this month's semifinals. Defending champion France will feature Amelie Mauresmo and Mary Pierce in the other semifinal against Spain, which has won this event five times.

The International Tennis Federation announced the lineups Monday for the conclusion to the top team event in women's tennis, which will be hosted by Moscow for the second straight year. The semifinals are Nov. 24-25 on indoor carpet at Krylatskoye Ice Stadium, with the finals Nov. 27-28.

Russia, hoping to win its first Fed Cup title, boasts two of the game's top five players. Myskina is ranked No. 3 third and Kuznetsova, the U.S. Open champion, is No. 4. Also on the team are No. 11 Vera Zvonareva and No. 24 Elena Likhovtseva.

Austria, also seeking its first Fed Cup crown, upset the United States in the quarterfinals. Sybille Bammer, a left-hander ranked No. 151, tops the team, followed by Yvonne Meusburger, Patricia Wartusch and Daniela Kix.

Mauresmo, ranked No. 2, lost in the WTA Championships semifinal to Serena Williams on Sunday. Mauresmo would have finished the year No. 1 had she won the tournament. She will be joined on the French team by Pierce, a two-time Grand Slam tournament winner ranked No. 29, as well as Nathalie Dechy and Tatiana Golovin.

Spain, which beat Belgium in the quarters, will go with Virginia Ruano Pascual, Anabel Medina Garrigues, Marta Marrero and Maria Sanchez Lorenzo.
