Postgraduate exam change blamed on printing

Pring mistakes had prompted examination authorities to change some questions for the 2005 postgraduate entrance examinations in several cities, the Ministry of Education said Sunday.

The English-Chinese translation segment was changed at 2 p.m. Saturday, the first time authorities had changed questions for the English test for the postgraduate entrance examinations at the exam venues.

"The questions were changed due to problems in printing and layout," the ministry said in a news release.

However, some examinees were not convinced. The Beijing-based China Times newspaper quoted a student as saying the original questions were clearly printed.

The student claimed he had a quick look at the paper. He also questioned why some cities had changed questions while some did not.

Beijing, Xi'an, Wuhan, Dalian and Nanjing cities changed questions.

However, Shanghai, near Nanjing, and Henan Province near Beijing, did not change the questions.
