James CY Soong, newly re-elected chairman of the Taiwan based People First Party (PFP), promises on Sunday that he would go on leading the PFP to promote both the peaceful and steady development across the Taiwan Strait and actively advance the exchange and cooperation between the PFP and the Communist Party of China (CPC).

"I myself will lead the PFP to continue to devote every effort to promote the peaceful and steady development across the Strait and actively push forward the exchange and cooperation between the two parties so as to better the life of the people across the Strait and create a bright future for the Chinese nation," said Soong.

Soong made the remarks in a message of thanks he sent to Hu Jintao, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, for the congratulations the latter extended on his being re-elected as PFP chairman.

In the message, he also thanked the warm, cordial reception that Hu and his party rendered him during his recent trip to the Chinese mainland in May and said his party will work to implement the conclusions reached jointly by the two parties during the trip to meet the expectations of the people from across the Strait.

Soong was reelected chairman of the (PFP) last Friday during an election from June 22 to July 15, with a 99.19 percent-overwhelming majority of votes.
