Nation to further ties with AU, says Hu

Konare said that in the new international environment, Africa and China
should work together to build a strategic partnership.
The Chinese Government announced in late December that it would provide the
African Union with US$400,000 to aid its operations in Sudan's Darfur region,
expressing China's hope to see a peaceful solution to the Darfur issue within
the framework of the African Union at an early date.
The AU whose predecessor was the Organization of African Unity was officially
launched in 2002. It is a premier institution with a view to accelerating the
process of integration in the Africa continent to enable it to play its rightful
role in the global economy while addressing multifaceted social, economic and
political problems compounded as they are by certain negative aspects of
globalization.
