Shenzhen need a win back to China

Based on recent form, Shenzhen’s prospects do not appear to be very good. They are winless in six matches in the China Super League, losing their last four including back-to-back 5-1 defeats against Dalian Shide and Liaoning FC.

Furthermore, the club’s financial difficulties continue to cause problems with the first team refusing to train last month after not getting their full salaries and

However, Shenzhen have proven a resilient side this year with their home victories against Jubilo and Suwon demonstrating their ability to rise to the occasion. Despite being completely outplayed by Al Ahli last week, it would be unwise to read too much into recent results and count them out just yet.

Coach Guo Ruilong clearly has his eye on the AFC Champions League and rested all of his regular first team players for last Sunday’s visit to Liaoning apart from defender Zhou Ting, who will miss the second leg encounter after being sent off in Jeddah.

Finding a goal against the Saudi side will be of paramount concern to Guo after watching forwards Li Yi and Yang Chen fail to find the target in the first leg. In fact, the situation could have been much worse for Shenzhen if Naif Al Qadi had not headed into his own net to gift the Chinese champions a goal.

The good news for Shenzhen fans is that Togo striker Djima Oyawole looks set to return to action after missing last week’s game after straining a leg muscle during training.

There are some concerns in the Shenzhen camp after defender Li Weifeng missed training on Monday with a ear infection and fever but the China international is likely to play along with goalkeeper Li Leilei, who is nursing a slight knock.
