Party's business courses big hit with magnates

More than 400 private entrepreneurs in Guangdong Province are paying to attend Communist Party of China courses in politics, economics and business management, making it fashionable in managerial circles this past year, reported The Beijing News.

The training courses on "private enterprise and business practice," organized four times a year by the Party School of the CPC Central Committee, are very popular among Guangdong private entrepreneurs.

Liu Yang, executive deputy secretary-general of the Guangdong Academy of Non-public Economies, discussed the school with The Beijing News yesterday.

Among 150 students taking courses each term, more than one-third are Guangdong private entrepreneurs. In one term, more than 90 CEOs of private enterprises were attending classes, said Liu.

The students are either millionaires or smart businessmen, or both. One-fourth of their enterprises rank among the top 100 Guangdong enterprises.

"Although the study occupies my business time, it's worthwhile because I learned many valuable trouble-shooting skills and made many friends," said participant Li Xinghao.

He is CEO of the Guangdong Chigo Air Conditioning Co Ltd, listed No. 91 in the mainland's Richest Men Billboard by US Forbes Magazine in 2003.

The CPC Party School selects senior, prestigious scholars to give lectures to private entrepreneurs, said Ding Donghong, director of the school's training center.
