    Wu Peng wins 200m butterfly in World Cup meet

    Chinese Wu Peng clocked the fastest time to win the men's 200-meter butterfly in the World Cupshort-course swimming meet at East Meadow, New York on Friday.

    Wu dominated the event in 1:54.24, beating Russian Anatoly Polyakov to a distant second in 1:56.35. American Jayme Cramer finished third in 1:56.48.

    In the men's 400-meter individual medley, Michael Phelps set anAmerican record of 4:03.99. He then won the 100m individual medley in 53.21 seconds.

    Luca Marin of Italy was the silver medalist in the 400 in 4:07.76, while Thiago Pereira of Brazil was runner-up in the 100 in 53.49.

    Phelps, 20, won six gold medals in the Athens Olympics, but wasa disappointing seventh in the 100 freestyle at the world championships last summer in Montreal.

    A student at the University of Michigan, he also enter Saturday's 200 freestyle and 200 individual medley.

    Rachel Komisarz, a 2004 U.S. Olympian, won the 100 butterfly and was second to Josefin Lillhage of Sweden in the 200 freestyle.

    Komisarz earned her gold medal in 58.33 after finishing runner-up in the 200 freestyle at 1:57.47. Lillhage touched the wall first in 1:56.73.

    American Brendan Hansen dominated the 200 breaststroke in 2:08.30. A 2004 Olympic gold medalist, Hansen easily beat Scott Usher, who posted a 2:09.48.

    Randall Bal, a former world champion in the 50 backstroke, won his fourth 100 backstroke in the current series in 50.92.

    Neil Walker of the United States topped Filippo Mangini of Italy in the 100 freestyle, timing 40.77 against 47.81 for Mangini.

    Tara Kirk, the reigning U.S. Open champ in the 100 breaststroke,won her specialty in 1:05.29. Ariana Kukors easily captured the 200 individual medley in 2:09.84, Therese Alshammar of Sweden won the 50 freestyle in 24.32, while Caitlin Andrew (27.84) defeated Kukors (28.47) in the 50 backstroke.
