Chinese lawmakers, political advisors and scholars all pledge their resolute support for the enacting the anti-secession law, the draft of which is being deliberated by China's top legislature.

"It's an international convention for a nation to oppose secessionist activities and safeguard its national sovereignty andterritorial integrity through legislation," said Xia Jiajun, a member of the CPPCC National Committee and professor of the law research center of the China University of Political Science and Law.

"No sovereign state will tolerate any secessionist activities and activities to sabotage national unity. The United State, Britain, Russia all have drafted relevant laws," acknowledged Xia.

Xu Shiquan, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said the draftanti-secession law codifies guidelines and policies adopted by three generations of the Chinese leadership in dealing with the Taiwan issue and eloquently embodies the consistent stance of the Chinese government to achieve the peaceful reunification of the motherland with its maximum sincerity and its firm resolve to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Xu Bodong, director of the Taiwan Research Institute under the Beijing Union University, said it is nothing but a pure lie to cite the anti-secession law as a "war mobilization law" and an attempt at "unilaterally changing the status quo."

"The Chinese mainland and Taiwan belong to the one and same China. This has not only been testified by historical facts but also defined by the international law. It complies with the existing legal framework in Taiwan," said Xu.

Zhu Weidong, a noted research fellow at the Taiwan Issue Research Institute under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said the anti-secession law is aimed to take preventive measures against the secessionist activities.

It is the 'Taiwan independence' secessionist forces themselves which have been bent on undermining stability across the Taiwan Straits, said David Chu Yu-lin, an NPC deputy from Hong Kong. "Their secessionist activities are the only reason for and the fundamental source of cross-Straits tension."
