演說完畢，一些聽眾仍在議論紛紛，一位聽眾說道："Mr. Smith is full of hot air ." Smith先生是兩位候選人之一。我心想，這位 Smith 先生怎么會和熱空氣或者熱氣球有關(guān)系呢? 另一位聽眾接著前一位聽眾的話說道，"Mr. Smith never keeps his promises."這時我意識到恐怕 full of hot air 不是熱空氣或熱氣球的意思。回到家一查字典，發(fā)現(xiàn) full of hot air 原來是吹牛大王的意思。在英語俚語中，hot air 是空話，大話和夸夸其談的意思。
