Hubei province is briefly named E, with Wuhan as its provincial seat. Hubei is situated in the conjunction area that “joins east with the west and link the north with south” in China. Historically, it is one of the economically developed regions in China. Presently, the province has built up a comprehensive industrial production system with a full range of sectors and with iron/steel, machinery, electric power, textiles and foodstuffs as the mainstays. Its pillar industries include automobile, machinery & electronics, metallurgy, light industry and textiles, and foodstuffs, with automobile output ranking the first in the country. With its agriculture based on cultivation, the province is considered to be an important production base of grain, cotton, edible oil and pigs in China.
In 2008, Hubei’s GDP totaled 1.51258 trillion yuan.
湖北省簡稱鄂，省會城市武漢。湖北省處于全國“承東聯(lián)西，南北交會”的結(jié)合部位，歷來為中國經(jīng)濟(jì)發(fā)達(dá)地區(qū)之一，現(xiàn)已建成以鋼鐵、機(jī)械、電力、紡織、食品為主體、門類齊全的綜合性工業(yè)生產(chǎn)體系，汽車、機(jī)電、冶金、化工、輕紡、建材和建筑是支柱產(chǎn)業(yè)，汽車產(chǎn)量居全國第一。農(nóng)業(yè)以耕作業(yè)為主，是中國重要的糧、棉、油、豬生產(chǎn)基地。
2010年湖北地區(qū)生產(chǎn)總值15125.8億元。
In history, Hubei has been a hub of both water and land transportation in China. The freshwater transportation occupies an important position in the province and trunk railways radiates in all directions. Hubei is the key construction region for Chinese industry. The province is rich in mineral reserves and hydropower resources, with hydropower generation developing rapidly. The textile industry of Hubei includes sectors of cotton, hemp, wool, silk and synthetic fiber, with cotton textile industry as the mainstay and the most important sector of light industry in the province.
湖北歷來為中國水陸交通運輸樞紐。內(nèi)河運輸在省內(nèi)居重要地位，鐵路干線四通八達(dá)。湖北是中國工業(yè)重點建設(shè)地區(qū)，省內(nèi)蘊藏豐富的礦產(chǎn)資源，全省水力資源豐富,水電發(fā)展迅速，紡織工業(yè)包括棉、麻、毛、絲、化纖等部門，以棉紡織工業(yè)為主，是省內(nèi)輕工業(yè)中最重要的部門。
