Vestas inks wind turbine deal with Datang

    2011-06-21 09:26

BEIJING -- Vestas, one of the world's largest wind turbine manufacturers, has signed a large contract with the China Datang Corporation Renewable Power Co Ltd, Vestas said in a press release issued on Monday in Beijing.

The contract consists of the delivery, installation and commissioning of 58 V60-model 850-kilowatt wind turbines. The turbines will be installed on the Dayuanshan wind farm, which is located in Wuchuan County in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, according to the press release.

The contract also includes a two-year service and maintenance agreement, as well as other business-related services provided by Vestas, the press release said. The turbines are scheduled to be delivered in the third quarter of 2011, according to the press release.

Located in the middle of Inner Mongolia, Wuchuan County is surrounded by rugged mountains. The county is perched at an elevation of 1,800 to 2,000 meters above sea level.

These conditions make it difficult to reach the county at times. However, industry officials say that the lightweight design of Vesta's V60-model wind turbine will make it a suitable choice for use in the region.

President of Vestas China Jens Tommerup said "since we installed the first V60s in 2010, their performance has reached a very satisfactory level."

The China Datang Corporation Renewable Power Co Ltd is a subsidiary of the China Datang Group and is one of China's largest wind energy developers.

Vestas and Datang have been working together since 2005, when the Chinese wind energy industry was starting to rapidly develop.

Since 2005, the orders Vestas has signed with the China Datang Corporation Renewable Power Co Ltd have resulted in the addition of more than 800 megawatts (MW) of total installed power capacity to China's wind power grid.

Vestas began manufacturing wind turbines in 1979, installing China's first wind turbines in Shandong in 1986. By the end of 2010, Vestas had installed turbines generating almost 3,000 MW of power across 14 provinces in China. This makes Vestas one of the largest suppliers of wind turbines in China.
