在閱讀外文報(bào)刊時(shí)，一旦涉及到美國(guó)對(duì)臺(tái)灣的態(tài)度問題，經(jīng)常會(huì)碰到單詞status quo（現(xiàn)狀）。這不，就華盛頓向臺(tái)灣出售新一輪新型戰(zhàn)機(jī)達(dá)成協(xié)議一事，美國(guó)依然唱老調(diào)——它將恪守三個(gè)聯(lián)合公報(bào)，反對(duì)單方面改變臺(tái)?，F(xiàn)狀。

報(bào)道中的status quo源于拉丁語，指the existing condition or state of affairs（現(xiàn)狀），常和動(dòng)詞maintain，preserve或uphold連用，表示“維持現(xiàn)狀”，如“His directness bas annoyed some who seek to preserve the comfortable status quo.”（他直截了當(dāng)?shù)淖黠L(fēng)惹惱了一些安于現(xiàn)狀的人。）

另外，若在status quo 后加上ante就是指“以前的狀況”了，如：“He did not readily embrace my suggestion of a return to the status quo ante.”（ 他不怎么樂意接受我提出的恢復(fù)以前狀況的建議。）
