The waiter: Welcome to Laoshe Teahouse! Have a good one!

Located near Qianmen Street, Laoshe Teahouse is one of the most popular tourist spots in Beijing. Of late, it’s getting even more patronage due to the Olympic Games.

In the last 10 days, we have received ten governmental VIPs, more than 2,000 guests from the Olympic Family and also over 15,000 tourists.

Tea-in-a-big-bowl is a specialty of Laoshe Teahouse. It is good to drink on hot summer days. At only 2 cents, it’s nearly a free cup of tea and has strong local characteristics, the tea is homely and welcomed by passers-by.

We sell the tea-in-a-big-bowl from 10 am to 4:30pm this month, two hours longer than normal. The other day, more people came for a taste after they watched the Marathon near Qianmen Street.

China is where tea originated and it is no doubt that tea is branded the national drink in the middle kingdom. Tea culture has developed as part of Chinese culture for a thousand years. Set up in 1988, Laoshe Teahouse is a place not only for drinking tea, but also experiencing Chinese traditions.

Red lanterns, shadow puppet plays, dough figurines and local music performances, - all the details in the teahouse exhibit Chinese life in many aspects. While one is sipping tea, Chinese shows, as well as the delicate snacks, add more taste to the national drink.

We staged a new performance on the 3rd of August for the Olympics. It lasts for one and a half hours. You can watch the famous Peking Opera, acrobatics, magic shows and also Chinese Kongfu.

One thing I want to mention is the “Long-spout Pot Tea Artshow”. The artists are in different colored dresses, symbolizing the five Olympic rings. Don’t worry about the water splitting out from the spout– that’s the best part of the show!

The waiter: Wish you all the best! See you again!
