Capital M Literary Festival

A literary dinner with Anne Summers, acclaimed author of The End of Equality, on March 1. She will discuss her latest book, The Lost Mother, in which a search for a lost painting becomes a moving explanation of art, loss and love.

The inaugural Capital M Literary Festival, which runs until March 12, will also feature talks with authors and panel discussions. Dutch architects Michiel Hulsholf and Daan Roggeveen will look at China's world cities, while Korean writer Kim Young-ha will talk about literary noir.

Bookworm International Literary Festival

Now in its fifth year, The Bookworm International Literary Festival is hosted in three of China's most vibrant cities: Beijing, Suzhou and Chengdu. This year the event runs from March 4 to 18 and will include 100 events.

There will be book talks, writing and publishing workshops, film screenings, and an expanded Children's literature program, as well as evening performances of music, comedy and storytelling.

The opening night features an evening of readings by six award-wining writers. Featuring Argentina's mystery master Guillermo Martinez, the feted Paolo Giordano from Italy, renowned BBC foreign correspondent Fergal Keane, Hungarian performer and writer Peter Zilahy and, from China, poet Xi Chuan and sensualist author Hong Ying.

Kunqu Opera: Romance of the Western Chamber

A love story in which the hero and the heroine break the feudal conventions in their pursuit of true love, the intricate plot of Romance of the Western Chamber is rich in wonderful lines and vivid characters.

The opera ranks first among the four classical dramas in China and is considered the best ancient Chinese traditional opera and the last master piece of beiqu (northern kunqu opera).

Berlanga film session

The Instituto Cervantes will host a film season devoted to Spanish director Luis Garca Berlanga in March. The event opens on Mar 2 with Welcome, Mr Marshall (1952), which will be followed by a Q&A with renowned Spanish screenwriter Agustin Tena.
