Rolls-Royce, LSO to host masterclass for Chinese student conductors

    London-Rolls-Royce plc, a world-leading provider of power systems and services, and the London Symphony Orchestra (LSO), one of the world's leading orchestras, are pleased to announce the hosting of a master class for student conductors during the LSO's 2007 China Tour. The master class will be led by LSO Principal Guest Conductor Daniel Harding with members of the Orchestra.

    This rare opportunity offers three students from the Central Conservatory of Music, selected through application, the chance to work under the guidance of Daniel Harding in conducting members of the LSO. Three students have been selected: Luo Zhenhua, 23, Zhu Man, 25, and Jiao Yang, 22.

    Luo Zhenhua - Luo Zhenhua is a junior student of the Central Conservatory of Music. He has been studying conducting for two years and a half, and has given two recitals at the Central Conservatory of Music.

    Zhu Man - Zhu Man is a post-graduate student of the Central Conservatory of Music. She has been studying conducting for over six years and has conducted over six concerts with several well-known domestic symphony orchestras.

    Jiao Yang - Jiao Yang is a senior student of the Central Conservatory of Music. He is also an award-winning pianist and has been conducting over 4 concerts with several well-known domestic symphony orchestras.

    Supported by Poly Culture & Arts Co. Ltd., the master class will take place at Poly Theatre on April 20th. During the master class, the students will conduct members of the London Symphony Orchestra in one movement of Dvoak's Symphony No 9 with tuition from both Mr. Harding and members of the LSO including Gareth Davies (flute), Patrick Harrild (tuba) and Matthew Gibson (double bass).

    The master class is part of Rolls-Royce's sponsorship of the LSO 2007 Tour of China, which will feature concerts in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. Chinese pianist Lang Lang and violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann are soloists during the tour. The programme reflects Rolls-Royce and the London Symphony Orchestra's shared commitment to nurturing young talent and respect for precision, innovation and excellence.
