The ninth China International Folk Art Festival, the fourth China Yangtze River Three Gorges International Tourism Festival, and the third China Yichang Yangtze River Piano Music Festival were launched in Yichang, Hubei province, on Sept 16.

The three festivals, which were scheduled to be held separately in September, November, and December,?were merged and were held simutaneously?from Sept 16 to 22, and they were thus launched together at one opening ceremony.

Due to cost-saving regulations, a fireworks display, water curtain, fountain, concert and other performances, such as the appearances of several popstars, were canceled, thus resulting in huge savings.

Folk art performances by artists from 14 countries, including China, were highlights of the three events. The Lublin Dance performed by the State Folk Song and Dance Ensemble “Mazowsze” of Poland was the first performance of the opening ceremony, and the Julia Grecos Spanish Ballet Echos of the Soul, a flamenco dance combining Greek music, dance, and African cultural elements, was a highlight of the event. Yichang artists also performed a folk song to showcase traditional features and local culture.

Arts organizations from 14 countries gave folk art performances at various local scenic spots, communities and schools in Yichang during the three festivals.

The organizing committee also held piano competitions and various cultural activities with the participation of visitors, including professional piano players interacting with music enthusiasts and taking part in activities like piano competitions and performances and famous pianists also visited local communities.

The organizers also?hosted a Three Gorges food festival and the first local Oktoberfest.

In addition, a total of 100 visiting overseas business people have already discussed investment opportunities in Yichang and on one day alone, Sept 15, they signed contracts concerning 53 projects, with the contract value exceeded 100 billion yuan ($16.34 billion).
