The Sanshou Competition was sponsored by the National Sports Bureau and the Chinese Martial Arts Association, and the regional sports administration.

With a theme of "kicking across the world", the Sanshou League, authorized by the Wushu Sports Center, is a top-level professional contest held nationwide. It aims to promote traditional Chinese martial arts alongside the more popular and commercialized forms.

To help implement the strategy of "One Belt, One Road", the China-Mongolia-Russia Sanshou Championship intends to advance international exchanges in sport, especially in Chinese kung fu.

As a type of Chinese kickboxing, sanshou, also called sanda, is a Chinese self-defense system and combat sport. Being part of Chinese martial arts, it is based upon the practices of traditional kung fu and modern combat fighting techniques; it combines full-contact kickboxing, which includes close range and rapid successive punches and kicks, with wrestling, takedowns, throws and sweeps.

The Sanshou League will utilize modern multi-media to broadcast the electrifying matches, and let more people enjoy this type of sport, an official of the local sports bureau said.
