During the recently-concluded May Day holiday, the cultural and tourism market in Shangyu district in Shaoxing, Zhejiang province, embraced a large number of tourists after the new landmark Cao'e Li Thirteen Alleys historical and cultural street opened. Inheriting the filial culture of the Jiangnan (the south of the Yangtze River) region, the spot has been attracting tourists from all directions.

Located in the core area of Xiaode Cultural Town, Cao'e Li Thirteen Alley covers an area of 8.68 hectares with a total investment of 590 million yuan ($81.4 million). Drawing on the layout of Jiangnan water towns with bustling lanes and flowing streams, and leveraging the history of the "Number One Temple in Jiangnan" — Cao'e Temple, the project has renovated ancient buildings and integrated alley culture with a commercial system to create four major thematic zones. The district also introduced an immersive light performance using audiovisual technology to reproduce the millennium-old humanistic charm of the Yue region. Such efforts reproduced a lively painting and the poetry of Jiangnan.

"The successful opening of the landmark is inseparable from the full support of the power supply company," said a manager of Shaoxing Shangyu Cultural and Tourism Group. "The power supply company responded to our demands quickly, completing the relocation and undergrounding of 10 kilovolt overhead lines ahead of schedule. This eliminated the aerial webs from the root and ensured the coordinated style of the ancient street. During the May Day holiday period, the daily average visits exceeded 20,000, and the power supply company conducted special electrical inspections for the scenic area's distribution room. They provided scientific operational guidance and gave us confidence in a reliable power supply during the holidays."

To ensure a reliable power supply in the district, the State Grid Shaoxing Power Supply Company relocated 1.16 kilometers of 10 kV lines, laid 2.05 km of high-voltage cables, removed 19 electric poles, and installed three new ring network boxes. Tailored load monitoring plans were designed for the district's nighttime economy to ensure stable operation of light shows and performance equipment.

"We adhered to the concept that uninterrupted power supply is the best service and provided the district with dual power access and ensured emergency power vehicle access, forming a three-tier guarantee system supported by main backup power and mobile power," said a manager of the State Grid Shaoxing Power Supply Company. "In response to the high passenger flow during the May Day holiday, the company set up a special power protection team to conduct holiday patrols of power lines and equipment related to the district. Accurate monitoring of equipment status was achieved through the use of infrared temperature measurement, drone inspections and other means. Additionally, emergency power vehicles were deployed on standby for 24 hours, ensuring the success of the opening ceremony and cultural tourism activities."
