In a metropolis like Beijing, environmental governance is a systematic project and key to people's livelihoods, Xi pointed out. As preventing air pollution is the most critical issue facing the capital, he said that the government must coordinate both regular and emergency measures to cut emissions. All of society should coordinate its efforts to uphold policies. Beijing should carry out measures to save water, which requires everyone's help, Xi said.

Xi said it has been a major challenge for Beijing to keep such a massive population moving. It should thus prioritize solving the problem of traffic congestion and expedite the formation of a comprehensive transportation system that is safe, convenient, efficient, green and economic. Rail transit, especially the subway, should be safe, and its operations and security checks should be strict.

Xi said the purpose of an exhibition of relics is for visitors to witness history, draw lessons from it and inspire future generations. We can learn much from ancient wisdom, he said.
