    What's the buzz

    (China Daily) Updated: 2012-10-22 07:49

Another year is coming to an end, and looking back over the last decade most people will have witnessed changes in their lives. No matter whether you are from rural or urban areas, what small but happy anecdotes have been written in your family journals from 2002 to 2012? China Daily's mobile phone news readers share their views:

I am a senior university student and have an ordinary but warm and happy family. I remember my father rode a bicycle to send me to school when I was in primary school and an electric bike in middle school. When I entered university, my father was already driving to work. Different vehicles stand for different times and mirror the progress made by each individual family and our country. Hopefully more families can share the fruit of reform and opening-up and live a happier life.

    LUNA, Huanggang, Hubei province

Ten years ago, I went to work in Shenzhen as a fresh graduate from university. At that time, I bought a mobile phone with a black and white screen for about 1,000 yuan ($160 ) after saving up for a year. But now, that much money can buy me a functional smartphone. Such advanced technology has made life more convenient and colorful.

    SULIN, Shenzhen, Guangdong province

The changes that have taken place in my hometown Tangshan have always excited me a lot. The place where my parents live is a public housing project, which is a good green project with supporting facilities that make life very convenient. Before that, we lived in a messy post-quake bungalow area without a private bathroom under the constant threat of another subsidence. The local government deserves thanks for the good policies the government has introduced to improve people's lives. I wish my hometown and country a prosperous future.

    HARRISON, Qinhuangdao, Hebei province

I am a fresh graduate who has just started my career. A decade ago, when I had just entered middle school, we lived in a rented apartment and most of my family's income came from the small grocery my parents ran, which produced a monthly revenue of about 2,000 yuan. Now, my parents have expanded their business and have bought a decent apartment in the county while I have started a job related to environmental protection. My family has become a well-off family during these 10 years.

    CHENDUWEN, Changsha, Hunan province

My family was undergoing a difficult time 10 years ago. As a farming family with many children, mine was not well off. To make things worse, we were planning to use all our savings to build a new house. At the start of every semester my mother worried about our tuition fees. Later my parents went to work in cities and our financial situation, though we are still not rich, is much better. I am grateful to my parents for their hard work and love and their teaching me to be content with life.
