President Xi Jinping's upcoming trip to Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus is part of a series of moves by China to promote peace and common regional development.

Xi will attend Saturday's ceremony to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Victory of the Great Patriotic War (1941-45) in Moscow, where he will convey Chinese people's respect to the Russian people for their indelible efforts against fascism in World War II, and China's sincerity to work with the whole world to maintain peace and create a brighter future.

In their common fight seven decades ago, with the Soviet Union fighting against German fascism in the west and China fighting against Japanese imperialism in the east, the peoples of both countries mutually extended support and help to each other and forged deep friendship with their blood. This also laid a solid foundation for their later generations of friendship. Such a history should be commemorated and remembered by today's people.

History must be correctly looked at and truth and justice must be upheld. Those who staged aggressive wars must look squarely at their aggressive history and undertake their deserved responsibilities if they want to be forgiven and embraced by the international society and really want to make contributions to world peace and development.

In the context of the deepened comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Russia, Xi's visit will also inject new vitality into bilateral ties. During Xi's visit to Kazakhstan, the first foreign leader's visit after the recent reelection of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, both leaders will sketch a cooperation blueprint and coordinate positions on a range of major programs, taking the opportunity for both sides to advance mutually beneficial cooperation.

As the first Chinese president to visit Belarus in 14 years, Xi's visit will further promote the outlining of top-level policies and plans between the two countries and boost their comprehensive strategic partnership.

The above is an abridgement of a People's Daily article published on Tuesday.
