Gavin McCann, who was booked for fouling Bentley before halftime, was shown his second yellow card in the 57th for tripping Tom Huddlestone.

Bent, who replaced Pavlyuchenko, scored from the penalty spot in the 76th after being brought down by goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen.

"I think the appointment is brilliant. Harry has been there before with teams and produced his magic, and I'm very confident he can do it with us," Spurs captain Ledley King said. "The win has been a long time coming but it feels good."

At Upton Park, Arsenal only found a way past West Ham after Emmanuel Adebayor came off the bench in the 67th.

Eight minutes later, the Togo striker's shot appeared to be going wide until West Ham right back Julien Faubert turned the ball past his own goalkeeper.

He nearly made it 2-0 in the 80th, but goalkeeper Robert Green parried the shot and the rebound was sent over the bar.

Adebayor scored in injury time, collecting a superb pass from Nicklas Bendtner and beating Green as he came off his line with a right-footed shot from 18 meters (yards).

"Last year, I overused (Adebayor) and now we go into a period where we play every three days, which is why I want to rotate a little bit," Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said.

Robinho showed Scolari what Chelsea missed out on when Man City beat the Blues to sign the Brazil forward in a record British transfer deal.

His first goal came when Elano received Shaun Wright-Phillips' cross and headed down for Ched Evans to pass to Robinho in the 14th.

Daniel Sturridge tormented the defense in the 47th before slipping a pass that Robinho slotted inside the post.

Sturridge was again the provider as the former Real Madrid forward scored his first English football hat trick in the 72nd.

"Robinho is key to what we are trying to do here and maybe in the past he has not had that feeling," City manager Mark Hughes said. "He is responding in a really positive way."

With Fratton Park still reeling from Redknapp's defection, Portsmouth also had no luck on the pitch with Peter Crouch's 61st-minute opener canceled out by Fulham's Clint Dempsey in the 87th.

At Wigan, Villa midfielder Gareth Barry scored the first goal from the penalty spot in the 22nd after Gabriel Agbonlahor had been brought down by Titus Bramble with a lunging tackle.

John Carew nodded Ashley Young's corner down for Agbonlahor to extend the lead in the 57th with the easiest of chances.

Five minutes later, Agbonlahor returned the favor by whipping in a cross that Carew headed in at the far post. Substitute Steve Sidwell curled in an injury-time fourth goal.
