    A foreigner who knocked over a woman in Beijing will be deported along with his father after they were found to be here illegally, the capital police announced on Wednesday night.

    The man knocked over the woman, surnamed Li, on a pedestrian crosswalk in Beijing's Chaoyang district last week. The accident drew public attention after a photographer uploaded their photos to an online forum.

    The photographer, who didn't see the accident, wrote in the captions that the woman fell when a foreigner passed her on his motorbike and asked him to take responsibility for her fall when he came back to help her.

    First Lady Peng Liyuan

    China's First Lady Peng Liyuan waited in line with other fans to attend a symphony in Beijing on Tuesday evening.

    The symphony was commemorating the 100th birthday of the late musician Li Ling (1913-2003), former president of China Conservatory, the first institution in China to specialize in the study of Chinese music focusing on performance, composition, theory, and music technology.

    A survey by a German investigation institute shows that Chinese workers are the most diligent, Global Times reported.

    The survey, based on 8,000 workers from eight countries including the US and France, was done by GfK, a German research institute. German workers followed Chinese as No 2 on the diligent chart.

    Ten domestic airports require their pilots to know how to land in smoggy weather when flying to Beijing.

    According to the requirement, to be effective starting next year, pilots should be able to land even if they can't see the lanes with their eyes, Oriental Morning Post reported.

    New hire

    A former female anchor from China Central Television who was involved in the former senior official Bo Xilai case was hired by Southern Weekly.

    Jiang Feng allegedly was involved in the French villa that belongs to Bo's family, China News Service reported. Bo was sentenced in September to life imprisonment for bribery, embezzlement and abuse of power.

    Journalists arrested

    Xiong Xiong, chief editor of Beijing Youth Daily's IT special, was detained for allegedly taking bribes of more than 1 million yuan ($164,700), according to Caixin.com.

    A few other newspaper journalists and website editors were also arrested on suspicion of taking money for stories and deleting posts with bias.

    New holiday plan

    Many netizens protested the country's holiday schedule for next year after the government unveiled the plan Wednesday.

    According to the plan, the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) holiday will start on the first day of the lunar new year, instead of on new year's eve, as in the old plan.

    Liu Weidong, who has been selling cakes for nine years in front of Xiangtan University in Central China's Hunan province, continued to stand by his wife, Li Shihua, after she was diagnosed with nasal cancer in 2008, the local Women Today Weekly reported.
