    Following the decline in housing prices in many small and medium-sized cities, such as Hangzhou and Changzhou, there are now signs that home prices in major cities, such as Beijing and Guangzhou, may also be set for a slide.

    Vanke Company, one of?China's largest property developers, last week reported that one of its residential buildings in Beijing entered the market at a price 3,000 yuan ($484.47)-per-square meter less than previous market expectations.(Beijing Times)

    Officials disclose private property

    China announced the National New Urbanization Plan for the 2014-2020 periods on Sunday. The plan requires the establishment of a real estate registration system before 2020. The registration system will be made on ground and will be used for private property information networking on a national scale.

    Also, officials over department level are required to disclose information on the private property.(Metro Evening News)

    Insurer offers residents coverage against smog

    An insurer will offer an insurance policy for health risks caused by air pollution, promising to pay out 1,500 yuan ($240) to policy holders hospitalized by smog. The policy, available for 10- to 50-year-olds, will also pay out 300 yuan when the city's official smog index exceeds 300 for five consecutive days, a level considered "hazardous", according to a notice posted on the People's Insurance Company of China website (www.epicc.com.cn).

    Kindergarten teachers back to work after strike

    Striking teachers at a kindergarten in Guangzhou's Baiyun district returned to work on Monday afternoon after mediation from the education department, Southern Metropolis Daily reported. Zhang Xiaoyan, a teacher at the kindergarten, said 36 teachers joined the strike to ask for higher salaries. Tian Liyin, head of the kindergarten, admitted that teachers' salaries were not high, at about 2,000 yuan ($320) a month, but promised to increase the salaries as a result of the mediation.

    Girl, 11, travels 2,000 km over 7 days with friend

    An 11-year-old girl, Wen Wen, in Hangzhou, left home on Mar 6 to meet a 15-year-old girl she met on the Internet who lives in Wuhu, Anhui province, zjnew.zjol.com.cn reported. The pair then traveled through three provinces - Anhui, Henan and Shanxi - covering more than 2,000 km in a week before they were found by police in Changzhi, Shanxi province, on Thursday. Wen Wen spent nearly all the money she brought with her, 1,700 yuan ($277), on transportation and hotels.??

    Woman wins house, but doesn't believe it

    A woman in Xi'an who won a house with a sea view by playing an online game thought she was the victim of a phone scam, Xi'an Evening News reported on Tuesday. Tang Ting, who is in her 20s, played the game on her cellphone on March 8 and received a phone call a few days later telling her she had won the house in Haikou, Hainan province. However, she thought the call was a trick so she turned off her phone. The game organizer eventually convinced her she had won a house, valued at more than 1 million yuan ($161,500).
