Provincial sports administration move to continue paying salary to Li Na, the two-time Grand Slam champion, has been defended by the director of tennis center in Hubei province, Xinhua reported on Saturday.

Since Li is still a member of Hubei tennis center, it is fine to pay her salary, said the director.

Li, who broke off from the State-funded team at the WTA tournaments, is currently managing her own money and also the millions in bonuses, so when it was revealed that Hubei provincial tennis association was still paying her salary, it ignited a lot of anger on Internet.
