A shop in Central China which offered free steamed breads to environmental sanitation workers has stopped serving the food. Some non-workers who were turned away from getting the free food cursed and quarreled with the shop owner, and some sanitary workers who believed a rumor that public departments paid the shop asked for money instead of steamed breads, Beijing Morning Post reported Friday.

The shop, in Zhengzhou city, capital of Central China's Henan province, began serving free food on Feb 7, after learning that sanitation workers had been working overtime to clear ice. The shop offers about 400 steamed breads daily, and gave away more than 16,000 in one month, at a huge cost to the small shop.
