BRISBANE, Australia - The ninth Group of 20 (G20) summit will open here on Saturday to seek measures for tackling global growth challenge and put in place actions to help achieve its growth goal.

Established in September 1999, the grouping aims to promote the world's economic growth and development by strengthening international financial architecture and providing opportunities for dialogue on national policies, international cooperation and international financial institutions.

The following are the previous eight G20 summits in chronological order.

On Nov. 14-15, 2008, the first G20 Leader' Summit took place in Washington, the United States, primarily focusing on strengthening financial regulation.

On April 2, 2009 in London, the United Kingdom, the G20 leaders met for the second time with priority on coordinated fiscal and monetary stimulus measures to avert the threat of global depression.

On Sept. 24-25, 2009 in Pittsburgh, the United States, the G20 leaders discussed further actions to assure a sound and sustainable recovery from the global financial and economic crisis.

On June 26-27, 2010 in Toronto, Canada, the fourth summit of G20 leaders was convened under the theme of "Recovery and New Beginnings" to begin to develop a framework for strong, sustainable and balanced growth.

On Nov. 10-11, 2010 in Seoul, South Korea, G20 leaders met for their fifth gathering with "Shared Growth beyond Crisis" as its theme. Discussion on ways to lead the global economy out of a downturn took the central stage of the meeting.

On Nov. 3-4, 2011 in Cannes, France, G20 leaders gathered to discuss tackling major issues affecting economic recovery and financial stability at a time of heightened tensions and significant downside risks for the global economy.

On June 18-19, 2012 in Los Cabos, Mexico, the sixth G20 summit was held with main topics on the euro-zone crisis and other key global issues, including the strengthening of financial system, development, trade and employment.

On Sept. 5-6, 2013 in St. Petersburg, Russia, G20 leaders converged for their eighth summit with host Russia setting fostering economic growth and job creation as the primary objectives.
