Nestlé's quality control begins at the farm

For a long time Nestlé has been cooperating with farmers, helping them improve product quality, participating in agricultural activities in a sustainable, environment-friendly way. In China, such a model allowed Nestlé to establish a long-term, mutually-dependent relationship with dairy farmers and coffee planters by providing free trainings and funds. Currently, Nestlé is studying the application of this model in the raw materials related to chicken, egg and peanut, and the study has been done from 2013. The quality monitoring system not only helps guarantee continuous gaining of high quality raw materials, but also allows farmers to obtain protection and increase their income, as well as improve the living standard in the whole rural community.

Nestlé Dairy Farming Institute was completed in October 2014 in Harbin. The center includes a training center and three different sizes of dairy farms. With the domestic first-class universities and dairy farming business leaders in various fields of cooperation, this center can provide for the country's dairy practitioners world-class unique training and farm practices. To support and promote the transformation and modernization of China's dairy industry, in order to improve the quality of dairy products make a great effort.

In the coffee industry, Nestlé is actively engaged in construction of a large-scale project"Nestlé Coffee Center" in Pu'er Industrial Park which is expected to be put into operation inthe coffee purchasing season in 2015 - 2016. The project consists of two parts. One part includes Nestlé Coffee-growing Training Center and Green Coffee Beans Laboratory which will provide training for coffee farmers, agronomists and coffee professionals and make the center the largest coffee training base of its kind in China; theother part is the modern storage facilities. The center, after built, will greatly enhance the capacity to provide training and technical support for coffee farmers and coffee workers.

In 2014, Nestlé Group set up Food Safety Institute in Beijing, aiming to connect it with the 25 Quality Assurance Centers, further enhancing its study on food safety in China. The institute works closely with the relevant agencies, trying to lay the scientific foundation for food safety policies and standards, including early food safety issues management, as well as cooperation with local universities, research institutes and related agencies on food safety issues. Nestlé Food Safety Institute also helps carry out food safety training program to promote scientific exchange.

Nestlé refuels "Solar Impulse" with food safety technologies

In the past four years, a core team of eight experts of Nestlé Research Centre has developed a unique nutritional program according to the flight conditions and individual needs of the pilots to ensure the smooth progress of the flight. The plan included a series of foods and snacks that could not only help the pilots to withstand extreme temperatures, weather conditions and altitude changes, but also provide the nutrition they needed. There were up to 11 foods supplied, including milk, Nescafé and high protein nutrition drinks. Nestlé has developed a new technology for food safety that can preserve food for 3 months without adding preservatives.
