Ministry opposed to US infringing on sovereignty

Beijing urged Washington on Monday not to implement the negative China-related content in a foreign aid package that was recently signed into law by United States President Joe Biden, and it vowed to take resolute and strong measures "if the US insists on going ahead with it".

Speaking at a regular news briefing in Beijing, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said that China firmly rejects that content, which gravely infringes on China's sovereignty, and has lodged serious representations with the US side.

On Wednesday, Biden signed the package that includes a large amount of "military aid" to China's Taiwan region, and a bill that stipulates that the social media platform TikTok must be divested from its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, or face a national ban.

Lin said the package severely violates the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiques, and it sends a wrong signal to "Taiwan independence "separatist forces.

It also undermines the principles of the market economy and fair competition by wantonly going after other countries' companies in the name of national security, he said.

"This has laid bare the hegemonic bullying nature of the US," Lin said, urging the US to respect China's core interests and major concerns.

Lin also rebutted US paranoia about China after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken accused China in an interview on Monday of so-called attempts to "influence and arguably interfere" with the upcoming US presidential election.

Lin said that noninterference in other countries' internal affairs is a basic principle of China's diplomacy, and China "never had any interest and will not interfere in any way" in the US presidential election, which is an internal affair of the US.

Meanwhile, "we staunchly reject anyone making an issue of China and damaging China's interests for election purposes", he said.

"The US should pivot away from its paranoia and stop making unfounded allegations to smear China and deflect the blame," Lin said, adding that what the US needs to do are things that are conducive to the stability of bilateral ties and that benefit the two peoples.
