Li Jinshui, a veteran of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45), portrays a striking image of resilience and vigor as he nears his 100th year. Recalling the tumultuous wartime era over 80 years ago, his voice remains robust and his thoughts clear. Clad impeccably with a chest adorned by commemorative medals, he shared his experience during an interview.

Born in 1927 in a humble household in Xiabeizhang village, Wuxiang county, Shanxi province, Li joined the Eighth Route Army led by the Communist Party of China in February 1944. Li's village was a station for the army during the war.

The rural boy watched the army carry water and clean for the villagers, promote the fight against Japanese aggression, and save the country. "They were very kind to us, and I was deeply influenced by them," Li still remembers the Eighth Route Army's proposition at that time: "If you're Chinese and have a conscience, you must stand up and fight."

Motivated by the Eighth Route Army's benevolence towards civilians and their advocacy for resisting Japanese aggression, Li felt compelled to stand up and join the army for his country during its time of crisis.

Reflecting on his service within the army, he vividly recalled his unit designation and the battles he engaged in. His experiences on the battlefield include being wounded and swiftly returning to duty after a brief hospital stay.

He emphasized the collective sacrifice of his many comrades for their homeland and fellow citizens.

Li pointed at his injured leg and, with tears in his eyes, said, "On the battlefield, many comrades-in-arms about my age shed their last drop of blood for the Party and the people."

Today, his multigenerational household is a testament to his legacy. His son and grandson-in-law followed in his footsteps by serving in the military.

Li's life epitomizes the enduring spirit of a veteran dedicated to his country's service. His unwavering commitment to the Party and the people resonates through generations.
