China has published a new bilingual book offering a comprehensive look at the development and achievements of the country's high-speed rail system, China State Railway Group said on Sunday.

The release of the updated edition of China's High-Speed Railway, available in both Chinese and English, comes ahead of the 12th World Congress on High-Speed Rail, which is set to open in Beijing on Tuesday.

The book chronicles China's journey from the initial stages of building its high-speed rail network to becoming a global leader in high-speed rail technology through independent innovation. It covers key aspects of the system, including engineering, train manufacturing, control systems, power supply, operations, safety management, and the development of intelligent high-speed rail solutions.

Structured into seven chapters, the book features more than 150 photos and numerous data-driven case studies, providing international readers with a detailed, visually rich introduction to China's high-speed rail system. For the first time, it also includes a full visual catalog of China's Fuxing and Hexie train families.

The book is designed to offer readers an authoritative, accessible, and engaging account of China's high-speed rail achievements and future plans, as well as the system's role in promoting economic growth, social development, and cultural exchange, according to the company.

China's high-speed rail network has reached 48,000 kilometers in total operating length, accounting for over 70 percent of the global high-speed rail mileage. The system now connects 97 percent of Chinese cities with populations over 500,000.

China's Fuxing bullet trains currently operate at commercial speeds of up to 350 kilometers per hour, and the country has set global benchmarks in the industry. On peak days, China operates up to 10,000 high-speed train services, transporting as many as 16 million passenger trips daily. To date, the network has carried more than 22.9 billion passenger trips.

China also plays a leading role in shaping international rail standards. It has led the development of all 13 system-level international standards in the high-speed rail sector under the International Union of Railways (UIC), further establishing its influence in the global rail industry.

The book is now available for purchase through major online retailers such as JD, Tmall, and Dangdang.
