China's second homegrown cruise ship starts major generator operation

The first main generator of China's second domestically-made cruise ship started to deliver power to the vessel's equipment systems on Tuesday, marking a critical phase in cruise ship construction, as equipment commissioning and system functionality testing move into full swing, according to its builder, the China State Shipbuilding Corporation's Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co Ltd.

This ship reached the milestone four months ahead of schedule compared with the first China-built cruise ship, Adora Magic City.

The main generator, a core component of the cruise ship, serves as the primary power source for both the vessel's electrical distribution and propulsion systems, and its commissioning signals the completion of 18 related fluid systems and over 300 auxiliary units, marking the near conclusion of mechanical space installations.

The experience gained from building Adora Magic City has laid a solid foundation for the construction of the second cruise ship with a continuously refined process and higher efficiency.

To date, the vessel has finished more than 80 percent of its total construction workload, and the next phase will focus on interior outfitting and equipment commissioning to ensure the vessel is successfully floated out by March 2026 and delivered by the end of the year.
