The State Council Taiwan Affairs Office on Friday condemned the Democratic Progressive Party for threatening Taiwan compatriots who plan to attend Victory Day commemorations.

Zhu Fenglian, spokeswoman for the office, said in a statement that DPP authorities have completely abandoned their national stance and seriously violated the wishes of compatriots on both sides of the Strait by using threats and intimidation to obstruct participation in the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45).

She said this approach fully exposes their "Taiwan independence" nature.

V-Day commemorations will take place on Sept 3 in Beijing. During a regular news conference on Wednesday, Zhu announced that people from various sectors in Taiwan would be invited to participate in these commemorative activities.

Certain DPP members on the island have threatened that former officials of the Chinese Kuomintang who attend events on the mainland will face risks, and any key figures who participate will be investigated upon their return.

In response, Zhu warned that those within the DPP who openly support and act as henchmen for 'Taiwan independence' will be held accountable according to the law and will be firmly opposed. She described the DPP's actions as a "betrayal of justice and conscience", calling them contemptible.

She emphasized the great sacrifices and significant contributions made by all Chinese people, including those in Taiwan, toward national liberation, the restoration of Taiwan to China, and the defeat of Japanese fascism.

"Representatives from various sectors in Taiwan participating in the commemorative activities in Beijing is a testament to upholding national righteousness and adhering to justice and conscience," she said. "It is dignified and beyond reproach."

Zhu noted that the commemorations serve as an opportunity for compatriots on both sides of the Strait to remember history, honor the martyrs, promote the great spirit of resistance, and jointly contribute to the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
