The Communist Party of China's committee of East China's Jiangsu province showed foreign guests its efforts to encourage and cultivate innovation and the outcomes it has gained in a presentation held at the International Department of the Central Committee of CPC in Beijing on Thursday.

Delivering a speech at the presentation, which drew about 400 delegates from countries including the United States, Russia, Finland and Denmark, Li Qiang, secretary of CPC Jiangsu provincial committee, shared examples of companies in Jiangsu, which are globally competitive and "have been focusing on innovation".

"Similarly outstanding companies are popping out in industries such as Nanjing's software and information service, Suzhou's nano-material industry, Wuxi's Internet of things industry, Changzhou's graphene industry and Taizhou's bio-medicine industry," Li said.

Li also shared Jiangsu's policies to support and encourage innovation, including the one where a team made up of top class talent in the world could be granted up to 100 million yuan ($15.16 million) for their project.

Song Tao, minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of CPC shared the Party's practices in promoting innovation.

Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC, the CPC Central Committee, with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core, has put innovation at the core of the over-all picture of the country's development, and has vigorously promoted the comprehensive innovation with technological innovation as the core, Song said, adding China has become a major country in terms of innovation.

"It is a political party's duty to keep up with the times and actively lead reform and innovation, and various political parties of various countries should make use of their own advantages to find a way for innovation that suits their countries' circumstances."

Antti Kurvinen, a member of the Parliament of Finland, said he found the presentation "really interesting".

"I think it's really important we have arenas where people from different parts of the world can discuss this huge technology revolution which is going on," he said while speaking of a seminar at the presentation.

"China is such a significant country... It's very important that we, from Finland, have a relationship here and we know what the Chinese are thinking, as well as what is happening in China.”

China's efforts to transform its economy into an innovation-driven economy is like a wake-up call for people in western countries who still believe that China is "doing cheap products", Kurvinen added.
