China's biggest sports star Yao Ming has dismissed as "ridiculous" an Internet report linking him to an American actress who is nearly 28 inches (70 cm) shorter than him.
The 7ft-6in (2.26m) Houston Rockets centre, who is currently sidelined with a knee injury, was reported to have dated Nia Long, a film and television actress.
Yao told Titan sports newspaper's Web site that he had read the story on another Web site with his basketball star girlfriend, Ye Li, by his side.
"Isn't it too ridiculous?" he said. "I saw the news on Internet. The writer is so good athoaxes. What's that? She's only 1.57m. I'm 2.26m. Does it sound reasonable?"
The report said Yao had first seen Long in the 1990s television series "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air", in which she played the love interest of Will Smith's lead character.
Long has also acted in comedy film series "Big Momma's House" as well as TV series "Soul Food" and "Judging Amy".
"I have never heard of the name of her movie," Yao said. "Were there so many foreign movies in China when I was a kid?"
Yao's long-term girlfriend Ye, a more suitable 6ft 2in (1.90m), is a centre for China's female basketball team.
"Ye Li is now living with him. Anybody who has commonsense will not believe such a rumour," Yao's spokesman told Titan.

中國體壇巨星姚明日前對(duì)網(wǎng)上一則有關(guān)他和美國某女星的荒唐緋聞一笑置之，這位女演員比他矮將近70厘米。
這位身高達(dá)2.26米的休斯敦火箭隊(duì)中鋒日前因膝傷而缺席比賽，但是卻被爆與一位名叫尼婭·朗的影視演員約會(huì)。
據(jù)《體壇周報(bào)》網(wǎng)站消息，姚明在網(wǎng)上看到這則消息時(shí)，女友葉莉也在他身邊。
姚明說："這也太離譜了吧？我在網(wǎng)上看到了這個(gè)消息。那哥們兒也太能編了。這都什么跟什么呀？而且也太矮了，才1米57，我是2米26。聽著靠譜嗎？"（注：姚明原話）
該“緋聞”稱，姚明在上世紀(jì)90年代的電視劇《新鮮王子妙事多》中就認(rèn)識(shí)了尼婭·朗，尼婭·朗在劇中扮演威爾·史密斯所主演角色的戀人。
尼婭·朗所飾演的影視作品還包括喜劇《臥底肥媽》、電視劇《精神食糧》和《法外柔情》。
姚明說：“我連這些電視劇的名字都沒聽說過。在我小的時(shí)候，中國有這么多外國電影嗎？”
姚明和女友葉莉已相戀多年。葉莉身高1.9米，是中國女籃的一名中鋒。
姚明的發(fā)言人向《體壇周報(bào)》透露，葉莉現(xiàn)在和姚明住在一起。有點(diǎn)常識(shí)的人都不會(huì)相信這是真的。
