    Located in the upper reaches of the Yellow River, northwest China, Gansu is one of the cradles of Chinese culture. It occupies a total area of 453,700 square kilometers and 14 cities. With a population of 25.53 million (by 2012), Gansu has a multinational population which includes ethnic minority groups of Kazak, Mongolian, Tibetan, Hui, Dongxiang, Tu and Manchu.

    Lanzhou city

    Lanzhou is the capital city of Gansu province in northwest China. The Yellow River runs through the city, ensuring rich crops of many juicy and fragrant fruits. The city is the transportation and telecommunication center of the region.? read more

    Jiuquan city

    Situated in the northwest of Gansu province, Jiuquan neighbors Zhangye in the east within the province. It is also bordered by Qinghai province in the south, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region in the west and Inner Mongolia and Mongolia in the north. read more

    Jinchang city

    Jinchang city is located in northwestern Gansu province at the north foot of the Qilian Mountains. It neighbors Wuwei city in the southeast within the province, and shares boundaries with Qinghai province in the southwest and Inner Mongolia in the northwest. read more

    Tianshui city

    Tianshui city was once the first stop that the Silk Road made upon entering the Gansu province. Situated in the southeastern region of Gansu, it lies halfway between Lanzhou and Xi'an, and along the upper branch of the Weihe River, where Shaanxi, Gansu and Sichuan provinces converge. read more

    Jiayuguan city

    Jiayuguan city is located at 98°17' east longitude and 39°47' north latitude. It lies in the Gobi desert, at the middle of Hexi Corridor, 776 kilometers away from Lanzhou and 5 - 6 hours away by bus from Dunhuang. read more

    Wuwei city

    Wuwei city is situated in the central part of Gansu province, on the east end of Hexi Corridor. read more

    Zhangye city

    Anciently named Ganzhou, Zhangye was a famous commercial port on the Silk Road and one of the biggest international trade markets in the country. read more

    Baiyin city

    Baiyin city is situated in central Gansu province, the upper reaches of the Yellow River. It is bordered by Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region in the east and Inner Mongolia in the north. The capital city of the province, Lanzhou is adjacent to its west. read more

    Pingliang city

    Standing in the east of Gansu province, Pingliang neighbors Ningxia Hui autonomous region in the north and Shaanxi province in the south and east, being an important pass linking the inner Gansu with the east region of China. read more

    Qingyang city

    Qingyang is habitually called 'Long Dong' because of its locality in eastern Gansu province. It borders Shaanxi province in the east and north in the neighborhood of Ningxia Hui autonomous region in the west. Within the province, it is bounded on the south by Pingliang city. read more

    Dingxi city

    Dingxi is a town of folk arts. Carvings, paper cuttings, shadow puppetry, local operas and the most popular style of folk songs, Hua'er, are all attractions of the city. read more

    Longnan city

    Longnan city is situated in the southeast of Gansu province, neighboring Shaanxi province in the east and Sichuan province in the south. Within Gansu, Longnan borders Tianshui in the north and Gannan Tibetan autonomous prefecture in the west. read more

    Linxia Hui autonomous prefecture

    There are in total twenty-two ethnic groups living in Linxia, including Han, Hui, Dongxiang, Bonan, Salar, Tibetan and Tu, among which the Bonan and Dongxiang are unique to the prefecture. read more

    Gannan Tibetan autonomous prefecture

    Gannan Tibetan autonomous prefecture is situated in the southwest of Gansu province, neighboring Dingxi and Longnan in the east and Linxia Hui autonomous prefecture in the north.read more
