A Chinese medical team, which helped Bangladesh in treating the injured from a recent plane crash, called on the South Asian nation's interim leader, Muhammad Yunus, on July 27.

During the meeting, Yunus, who holds the official title of chief advisor to Bangladesh's interim government, extended heartfelt gratitude, on behalf of the people of Bangladesh, to the Chinese medical team for their prompt response and full support in treating the injured.

He added that he hopes the two countries will maintain close cooperation and communication in the healthcare sector so as to bring more benefits to the people.

On July 21, a Bangladesh Air Force training jet crashed into a two-story school building in Dhaka shortly after taking off from an air base in the Bangladeshi capital, killing several children and injuring dozens.

According to the Bangladeshi government, 33 people had died in the tragedy so far and 50 injured victims are now undergoing treatment at hospitals in Dhaka.

Yao Wen, China's ambassador to Bangladesh, extended condolences for the loss of lives, and stressed that China and Bangladesh are true friends sharing weal and woe.

The Chinese embassy in Dhaka said that China stands ready to provide assistance and support to the Bangladeshi side in treating the injured, and that it will continue to promote healthcare cooperation between the two countries, to advance knowledge and experience sharing, capacity building, and infrastructure construction.

At the request of the Bangladeshi interim government, a Chinese?emergency medical team consisting of five burn-specialist doctors and nurses arrived in Dhaka on the evening of July 24. After arriving, the team went to Bangladesh's National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery to?provide assistance and assessment for treating the injured.
